I Thomas Cockeril of Loudoun Co and Cameron Parish being in good
health, sound and memory but calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory
life....First my will and desire is that my executors do sell as much of
my stock and house hold furniture as will pay all my just debts and that
they do not sell any of my slaves for that purpose. Item I give to my son
John cockerill on shilling sterling and no more Item I give to my daughter
Elizabeth Triplett one shilling sterling and no more.
Item I give to my daughter Ann Remey Hall one shilling sterlin and
no more Item I give to my son Jeremiah Cockerill the following slaves,
Hannah, Charles, James and Jesse, which said slaves and the increase
of the female slave I give to him and his heirs forever
Item I give to my son Sandford Cockerill the following slaves, Stephen,
George, Daniel and Rachel
which said slaves and the increase of the female slave I give to
him and his heirs forever
Item I give to my son Thomas Cockerill, the followings Slaves James,
Chloe, and Sall, which said
slaves and the increase of the female slave I give to him and his
heirs forever
Item I give to my son Benjamin Cockerill, the following slaves, Solomon
and Winney which said
slaves and the increase of the female slave I give to him and his
heirs forever
Item I give to my son Thomas Cockerill my lease for the plantation whereon I now live to him and his heirs
Item Whereas I have yet three slaves yet unmentioned and ungiven
to wit Sarah, Will and Tom, my will and desire is that at my decease if
any of the Slaves given to my three younger sons, Sandford, Thomas, or
Benjamin sall be dead or increased so as for one of their parts to be of
more value than the part of slaves that I have given to another, then I
desire the deficiency to be made up out of the last mentioned slaves and
that the value of the slaves given to my three youngest sone be made
equal as possibly can be....
