GENERAL LEE'S SLAVE DEAD
He Was With Stonewall Jackson When That General Was Killed.
Danbury, Conn. October 17 - George Young, a former southern
slave, died
here, aged 66 years. He was with Stonewall Jackson at the
time he was killed.
By reason of his great strength, he was employed loading into the
wagons the
bodies of officers which the confederates did not wish to bury on
the field.
For some time, he was attached to General Robert Lee's headquarters.
While at
work on the field after a battle, Young was captured with a number
of
confederate soldiers and then served in the union army until the
close of the
war and came north with the troops.
